Storyline Module: Managing Up

Scenario-based eLearning to build communication confidence with leadership.

Problem

It’s common for early- and mid-career professionals to feel unsure about how to adjust their communication style depending on who they're reporting to. Without that skill, even strong performers can miss expectations, create friction, or hold back great ideas.

Solution

This self-paced eLearning module, built in Articulate Storyline, helps learners identify their manager’s style and flex their communication accordingly. Through realistic branching scenarios, they practice navigating conversations with two manager personas—a visionary and an analyst—and get personalized feedback on how they show up. Hands-on activities like writing emails and setting meeting agendas make the experience practical and relevant.

Potential Use Cases

  • Part of a leadership readiness or early-career development track

  • Embedded in mentorship or performance coaching programs

  • Included in onboarding for roles reporting to multiple leaders

Measurement Strategy

To evaluate impact, organizations could:

  • Use pre/post assessments to measure confidence and skill growth

  • Gather manager feedback on communication clarity and proactivity

  • Track behavior changes like more effective updates or fewer miscommunications

My Role

I led the full design and development of this course—from scripting and scenario writing to building interactions in Storyline. I recorded custom narration using ElevenLabs and used triggers and variables to create a smooth, responsive experience. This project reflects how I bring storytelling, interactivity, and strategy together to build training that truly supports on-the-job success.
